Implementation, Assistance and Evaluation Project on River Pollution Control in Southern Taiwan,2010

Absrtact
This project is the continuing action of “Implementation, Assistance and Evaluation Project on River Pollution Control in Southern Taiwan, 2009,” sponsored by the Taiwan EPA. The main tasks were to review the result of water quality improvement of the “major rivers” (Ji-Shuei River, Yan-Shuei River, Er-Jen River, A-Gung-Dian River, Love River) in southern Taiwan, analyze the water quality each month, and completed the water quality investigation on tributaries of “major rivers” twice. In addition, government officials across from different departments were invited to meets of which they can allocate the best strategies of target rivers pollution control. This project also focused on future 4-year water quality improvement plans and objectives of the “priority rivers” (reservoir for Penghu county) in southern Taiwan through the “rolling managerial philosophy.” Furthermore, in order to evaluate the progress and results of water quality improvement, this project also assisted the EPA and local environmental protection bureaus (EPB) to complete the river evaluation process. It’s quite important for government to come up with the strategies of the river restoration and improvement, yet, the public participation can also provide a huge benefit. As such, a garden party in 「Suantou Sugar Refinery」to demonstrate the achievements and promote the public participation in river restoration and improvement was held within this project, hoping to achieve the ultimate goals of “no oxygen deficiency, no odor problem and waterfront activation.”
